William "Bill" George Daniels, MSgt., USAF (Retired October 29, 1929 - April 16, 2015 William George Daniels - William "Bill" Daniels, 85, passed away peacefully April 16, 2015 at his home in Washoe Valley, with his family, after a battle with cancer. He was born October 29th, 1929 in Des Moines, Iowa to George Lee and Vella Mae Daniels.
Growing up Bill enjoyed the pleasure of camping, hunting and fishing as well as helping his dive team at East High champion a few competitions off the platform. After graduation he enlisted and served 14 months as a machine gunner with The U.S. Army finishing in Bamberg, Germany during the liberation. Bill spent the next couple of years stateside learning to fly small aircraft making deliveries and crop dusting throughout the mid-west.
Bill re-entered the service and joined the Air Force on January 11, 1951 and began his rescue and survival training with Pararescue. His training included U.S. Air Force base in Eglin, Orlando, Hamilton and Stead as well as training with the Blue Noses in the Arctic and the Bergwacht mountain guard in the German Alps. Bill completed the following in service schools; Basic Airborne, Rescue and Survival, Navy Scuba, Helicopter fire fighter and Air Rescue Medical training. Bill completed the advanced survival course at Stead, became a Master parachutist and a senior Aircrew member assigned to the 41st Aerospace Rescue Recovery Squadron at Hamilton AFB, California. Bill was later assigned to the 40th Aerospace Rescue Recovery Wing as a Pararescue flight Examiner serving overseas in Germany, Japan, Labrador, Azores, Scotland and Thailand as well as tours in Korea and Vietnam. Bill served in support of the Department of Defense operations during the Apollo XI mission, the first moon landing flight. Among the many honors he received was the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal, Air Force Commendation medal, Distinguished Unit citation, Air Force Good Conduct medal, Army occupation medals, National Defense service medal, Vietnam service medal, Korean service medal, Air Force Longevity service medal, small arms expert marksmanship medal and the United Nations service medal. After 21 years of military Master Sergeant Daniels retired in 1970 from The United States Air Force, Pararescue.
The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Military never left him, as friends and family will attest. Bill later went to work for Reno-Sparks Ready Mix driving a mixer. He enjoyed taking his boys out hunting and fishing, keeping up with yard work, a bit of gambling and golfing.
He was preceded in death by his Wife Lois and Sister Barbara Bauriedel of Ames, Iowa. He is survived by his son, Rick (Judith) their children (Adam, Nikki and Cynthia) of Moline, 11- Illinois and Daughter, Darcy Daniels her children (David, Angela and Bonnie Husar, Stevie Nicole and Leah Henson) and 14 great-grandchildren of Moline, Illinois, and sons, Michael (Melissa) their children (Brandon and Brett) and Scott (Odette) Daniels their children (Marylou, Shawna, Jennifer and Raymond) of Reno.
Memorial services will be held on May 1, 2015 at 1:00 pm at the No. Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley, NV. (14 Veterans Way)
