James W. Courchaine, MSgt., USAF (Retired) 1931 - December 02, 2006 COURCHAINE, James W., 75, retired U.S. Air Force master sergeant, passed away quietly and peacefully December 2, 2006, from complications of Alzheimer's disease.
Mr. Courchaine is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Doris; sister, Doris Rymanowski, and her husband, Frank, of Cohoes, N.Y.; son, James Courchaine, and his wife, Elsa, of Hawthorne, Fla.; daughter, Patricia Leto, and her husband, Nelson, of Kernersville, N.C.; daughter, Karen Courchaine, and her husband, Garry Harris, of Reddick, Fla.; son, Christopher Courchaine, and his wife, Lisa, of Land O' Lakes, Fla.; five nephews, a niece and seven grandchildren.
Born in Troy, N.Y., December 11, 1930, and raised in Cohoes, N.Y., a loving husband, devoted father, avid bowler, prolific reader and world traveler, Mr. Courchaine moved to Brandon, Fla., in 1972 after retiring with 22 years of service in the U.S. Air Force. He liked to travel and had circled the world three times, missing only three countries. He served as an aircrew member on fixed wing aircraft and helicopters for much of his Air Force career, working as a medical/surgical technician and a combat medic in air evacuation and air rescue during the Korean and Vietnam conflicts.
After retiring from the Air Force, he worked for several years as a maintenance mechanic with Florida Steel, in Tampa. Mr. Courchaine also worked in the insurance and financial planning fields.
Arrangements and services are to be provided by Stowers Funeral Home of Brandon 10 a.m. Thursday, December 7, 2006, with graveside services at 12:30 p.m. and interment to follow at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell. Military honors are to be provided by MacDill Air Force Base. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, December 6, at the funeral home.
