April 13,1931 - May 17, 2012



Carl I. Bartley Carl I. Bartley, 81, of Rockford, Ill., died on Thursday, May 17, 2012. He was born in Zion, the son of Miles and Florence Neff Bartley.

 

He graduated from Howard High School in 1949, and enlisted in the Air Force. He served in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. During the Vietnam era, he served as a radio operator on B-52 bombers. Later in Vietnam, he was assigned to search and rescue helicopters rescuing downed pilots. He retired in 1969, after serving 20 years.

 

He is survived by four sisters, Jane Morehead, of Rockford, Ill., Rose Phillips, Dorothy Harter (Max), Vera Brumbaugh, and brother, Doyle (Bonnie), all of Howard, and sister, Ruth Wurtzbacher (Joe), of Crawfordsville, Ind.; and one brother-in-law, Vern Clark, of Rockford, Ill. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Rebecca Duensing and Clara Belle Clark, and two brothers, Philip and Donn Bartley.

 

A family memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
