John Harry Parks, 75, of Sublime, Texas passed away on March 15, 2013 in Columbus, Texas. He was born on February 6, 1938 to John Martin Parks and Dorothy Lucille (Fuller) Parks in Lockhart, Texas.

 

He was a 1956 graduate of Columbus High School and a 1960 graduate of Texas A & M University, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education. He was a member of the Aggie Corps of Cadets and served in the United States Air Force as a helicopter pilot in the Air Rescue Service, retiring in 1970 as a Captain. He worked at Flintex Oil Company, Spindler Concrete Company and held several other jobs through his working years. In the 1970s he enjoyed acting in local theatrical productions, including plays, musicals and melodramas. John also enjoyed golf, hunting, and trips to the beach.

 

John is survived by his daughter, Melissa Jo Kilpatrick and husband Scott of Columbus, TX; son, John Stafford Parks of Katy, TX; sister, Marlene Parks Brandt of Austin, TX; stepdaughter, Stephanie Imbornone Wade and husband Josh of Spring, TX; granddaughters, Elizabeth Boulware and Rebecca Boulware of Columbus, TX; step-granddaughters, Jaclyn Kilpatrick Blankenship and Morgan Kilpatrick of Columbus, TX; and former wife, Jo Lou Parks of Columbus, TX.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sue (Imbornone) Parks; and step-grandson, United States Army PFC Christopher Kilpatrick.

 

Visitation will be Monday, March 18, 2013 from 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus.

 

Funeral services will be held on Monday at 6:00 pm at Henneke Funeral Home with Rev. Leah King officiating.

 

Burial will take place in the Odd Fellows Rest Cemetery in Columbus. Pallbearers are Bob Brandt, Scott Kilpatrick, Cecil Marburger, Joe Orsak, Doug Potter, Robert Reeh, Ed Vaclavik and Bill Vogl. Honorary pallbearers are John Adams, Stephen Draper, Phil Gates, Dit Harrison, Stephen Heffley, Dan Peevy, Stanley Priest, Josh Wade, Fritz Willms and Clinton Voelkel.
