Mr. James Avery Parker went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, with his loving family at his side. Mr. Parker was born March 30, 1931, in York County, S.C. to the late Fraymond Parker and Barbara Bolton Parker.

Mr. Parker was preceded in death by seven siblings, Calvin Parker, Garland Parker, Hunter Parker, Howard Parker, Ruth Parker, Lorraine Parker and Diane Parker.

Visitation will be from 12:30 until 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, at Woodward Baptist Church. Services for Mr. Parker will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, at Woodward Baptist Church with Reverend Keith Hinson officiating.

Mr. Parker entered the Army Air Force in 1948 and later transferred into the U.S. Air Force, where he retired after 20 years. During his time in the armed services he served in the U.S. Army Paratroopers 11th Airborne Division. During his "retirement" years, Jim enjoyed doing light maintenance at the Executive Inn Hotel for five years.

He was a faithful member of Woodward Baptist Church since 1990 and has served on many committees. He has been an active Sunday School Teacher of the Whitmore Class and served briefly as a deacon of the church.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Pat Parker; his son, Timothy Avery Parker and his wife Kim Williams Parker of Edgemoor; his three daughters, Karlisa Parker of Chester, Shelli Parker Anderson and her husband Jimmy Anderson of Greensboro, N.C. and Bella Parker Anderson and her husband Walt Anderson of Chester; six grandchildren, Karl Bagley, Kyle Bagley, Tim Parker, Jessica Cook, Jeorjia Anderson and Randi Broome; and fourteen great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Woodward Baptist Church Building Fund or Food Bank Fund, 1570 Ashford Road, Chester, SC 29706; or to Hospice Care of S.C., Chester County Branch.
