Paul E. McClellan, Lt. Colonel USAF (Retired)

January 28, 1934 - May 28, 2013



Paul E. McClellan, Lt. Col. (Ret), age 79, died May 28, 2013 in Gilbert, Arizona. He was born on January 28, 1934 to William and Iona (Jones) McClellan. He graduated from Clinton High School in 1951. After attending Beloit College and LaCrosse College, he entered the USAF.

 

On August 26, 1955, he married Melva Hart at the West Side Presbyterian Church in Beloit, WI.

 

While in the Air Force he became a pilot and flew B-47s, B-52s and Huey helicopters. He was rewarded the Silver Star, 3 DFCs, Purple Heart and 7 Air Metals while serving in Vietnam.

 

He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Arizona State University with a Master’s Degree in Engineering and later received a MBA.

 

In 1975, he retired from the USAF and began a career as a Civil Engineer.  He worked for State of Arizona, ASU, Motorola, SRP, Air Grand Canyon, and the City of Casa Grande, retiring again in 2008.

 

He is survived by his wife, Melva, son Gary of Louisville, KY, daughters, Pam Taylor of San Tan Valley, Az. and Carol McClellan, of Gilbert, Az., He is the proud grandfather of eight grandchildren, Katy McClellan, Kim Morelock, Kyle McClellan, Alex Taylor, Alyssa Taylor, Chase Taylor, Zachary McClellan and Anna McClellan. He is also survived by his sister, Norma Woodman and several nieces and nephews.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Belva, Clarice, Isabel, and brother David.

 

A Celebration of Life will be held in Arizona with his family and friends. At a later date a military service will be held at the Shopiere Cemetery.
