Jackson Hankia Kilgore, age 72, died at home March 13, 2008. He was born April 19, 1935 in Meadowview, VA. to John Bascombe Kilgore and Virginia Ernestine Hankia.

 

After high school he enlisted in the Air Force where he flew and maintained helicopters. He served in Okinawa, Japan, Vietnam, Thailand and numerous stateside bases. Serving in Air Rescue, he received the Distinguished Flying Cross adn the Air Medal with seven clusters in Vietnam.

 

He attended Bethany College in Kansas, Central Texas College, University of Southern California, and Utah State University where he majored in aviation management & aircraft mishap and investigation. He retired fro the Air Force with 20 years of service. After retiring, he worked at Hill AFB then for General Dynamics in Cairo, Egypt. He obtained a civilian pilot license and owned an airplane & hanger at Ogden Airport.

 

Jack married JoAnn Marie Dyer in 1956 and she passed away in 1999. He joined the LDS Church in a975 and was sealed to his family in 1976. In 2000, Jack married his soul mate, Joyce Hipwell. He was a High Priest and faithfully served in numerous Church callings over the years. He leaves behind three daughters, Susan Lynn (Jesse) Spencer, Kimberly Ann (Steve) Gercie, and Alice Marie Sink, 14 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and one sister, Carolyn (Bill) Wall of Florida. Preceeded in death by his parents and one brother.

 

He belonged to the Northern Utah Radio Control Association, QSAA, & IMMA and owned & operated Jack & Jerry's Scale Hobby Shop. To all my flying buddies, glance up at the clouds occasionally - You just might catch a glimpse of me looking down on you.

 

Funeral services will be held Monday, March 17, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist's Layton Chapel, 1867 North Fairfield Road. Friends and family may call Sunday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and Monday from 9:45 to 10:45 at the church.

 

Interment, Lindquist's Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 North Fairfield Road.

He was in the original 20th Helicopter Sq. (Pony Express) where he earned the DFC. He was stationed at Edwards, Ellsworth, Bergstrom, Donaldson and many other places. He retired at 20 years as MSgt. His friend.
