Mr. George X. Hefferon, age 83 of Chesterfield Township, passed away Monday evening in William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. He was born on February 23, 1932 in Phillipsburg, New Jersey, a son of the late John and Aurelia (Walthour) Hefferon. George was married to Nancy Payne. Later he was united in marriage to Karen Young on July 30, 1981.
George served 44 years in the military, the United States Army, 24th Infantry Divison during the Korean Conflict and then retired from the United States Air Force with the rank of Master Sergeant E-7. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 4. George enjoyed painting, fishing and hunting.
George is survived by his wife of 33 years, Karen; his daughter, Nancy Hefferon; grandchildren, John Patrick Hefferon and Rachel Catherine Hefferon; two sisters, Veronica Donahue and Mary Pires; step-son, Randy (Shellie) Smirnoff. George was predeceased by his son, John Hefferon; siblings, Elizabeth Ann Carolan, Gerald, John and Joseph Hefferon; and step-daughter, Deborah Reardean.
Visiting hours will be on Friday, May 8, 2015 from 2 - 8:00 p.m. in the Will and Schwarzkoff Funeral Home, 233 Northbound Gratiot Avenue, Mount Clemens. Funeral service will be on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. (visiting at 9:00 a.m.) in the Funeral Home. Burial with Full Military Honors will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton

May 5, 2015 6:19 PM My favorite memory of George is when the PJ team at Selfridge hosted the parachute training section of the Pararescue School for SCUBA jump training on Lake St Clair. George went out of his way to accommodate every need we had and made us feel welcome. He was a fine gentleman and great PJ. My sincerest condolences to his family. Blue skies my friend.
