GEORGE EDWIN WURZBURG Final Flight on April 04, 2014 |
George Edwin Wurzburg, Jr., USAF April 27, 1935 - April 04, 2014 George Edwin Wurzburg, Jr., age 78, passed away on April 4, 2014 at his home in Kayenta-Ivins Utah. He was born April 27, 1935 in Atlanta, Georgia, the only child of George Edwin Sr. and Ella Caroline Kinney Wurzburg. George had three sons, Steven, Michael, and Brian. He married Kathryn Hayes on February 14, 1992.
George was raised in San Francisco. Following school, he enlisted in the US Air Force (1953-57). His military service helped direct the course for his career, spending most of his working life as a helicopter pilot. Among his proudest accomplishments were fighting fires as a pilot for the Forest Service, and as the pilot for the founder of Learjet. He also loved to recall when he flew legendary John Wayne from a movie set in his helicopter.
He made dear friends all over the world sailing the Sea of Cortez to La Paz, Mexico, and as a dedicated member of Alcoholics Anonymous which helped him accomplish 30 plus years of sobriety. He was a generous person who was liberal with charities and friends alike. These same friends will sorely miss his kindness, humor, and true concern for others. He was soft on the inside but a feisty ladies man, an outspoken joker, and even a grumpy old man on the outside. Despite that tough exterior, he had a gentle heart of gold. A special thanks is extended to George's friends at Alcoholics Anonymous, Fairway Grill, Outback Steakhouse and The Village Bank.
He is preceded in death by his wife Kathy, sons Steven and Michael and his parents, George and Ella. He leaves behind his beloved canine companions: Ellie, Pinky and Sammy, whose care after his death was his greatest concern.
Friends are invited to attend a celebration of George's life on Saturday, April 12 at 10:00 a.m. at the Courtyard Marriott Hotel, at 185 South 1470 East. St. George, Utah Published in The Spectrum & Daily News on Apr. 10, 2014 |
