Robert Robinson Obituary
Robert H. "Bob" Robinson of Lawton, Okalahoma, died Tuesday, November 27, 2012. He was born to John Olen Robinson and Lou Bailey Robinson on October 16, 1931, in Knox County, Texas, near Red Springs.
He graduated from Seymour Texas High School in 1949, and entered and graduated from Baylor University. Bob was always grateful for having played on Baylor's 1952 Orange Bowl team. Decades later, other linemen would lament having their "bell" rung by his huge right hand.
In 1954 he met and married Jane Roberts Robinson on June 1, 1954.
In his 20 years in the Air Force, he saved more than 40 souls that we know of, while assigned to the 5040th Helicopter squadron at Elmendorf AFB, Alaska. Bob was a retired Air Force helicopter pilot. Bob's accomplishments have escaped much public measure even though many lives were saved by him, and many more shaped by his leadership and love. He also won the Search and Rescue Trophy in 1972 and the Order of Daedalians Polar Spark 10. He was a 32 (degree) Freemason.
No place was too far for either friends or family in a tight spot. He once drove 30 hours nonstop to Seattle for a family emergency. In 1997, he magically appeared in Vicenza, Italy, just to babysit. For Bob, there was always a better day "just over that next little rise." He was a professed Christian, confident in his salvation, and lived his faith rather than talked it.
Robert Robinson is survived by his wife Jane; daughter and son-in-law Brenda and Lt. Col. (Ret) Larry Bell of Chantilly, VA; sons and daughters-in-law Lt. Col. (Ret) James O. and Kathleen Robinson of Eagle River, AK, CDR (Ret) R. Michael and Nancy Robinson of Virginia Beach, VA, and Col. John R. and Jennifer Robinson of Apollo Beach, FL; 9 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and sister and brother-in-law Betty and Charles Montgomery of Seymour, TX.
Memorial graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Masonic Cemetery in Seymour, officiated by Drew Robinson. Services are under the direction of Seymour Memorial Funeral Home.
Interment will be in Seymour, TX.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Texas Scottish Rite Hospital For Children, 2222 Welborn St., Dallas, TX, 75219-3993

I flew many missions, as a Flight Engineer, with Bob when we were both stationed with the 5040th Helicopter Squadron at Elmendorf AFB, AK. One of the finest Officers and Pilots I ever served with. Rather than mourn his passing, I thank God that I, and others, had the privilege and opportunity to have know and served with this man and am proud to call him a friend.
