Randolph AFB, Texas 11 June 1957 Lubbock Evening Journal (Lubbock, TX) Wed, Jun. 12, 1957, page 1 Three Die In Air Crashes (By The United Press) -- Three Persons were killed and two injured Tuesday in three widely-separated aircraft crashes in Texas.
First Lts. Frederick D. Rupp of Montpelier, Ohio, and Richard Holliday on Marion, Ohio, were killed when their helicopter crashed at Bryan.
Both were operating as part of the Bryan air rescue unit. Both were married and lived with their families in Bryan. Rupp had a 21-month-old daughteer, Holliday a six-year-old son.
Another 'Copter' - Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio was the scene of another helicopter crash, which claimed one life and critically injured the pilot.
Airman 1-C Robert L. Grimco, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Grimco of Jackson, Mich., was killed. He was the crew chief. Capt. Robeert F. Sulliva, the pilot, was injured and taken to Brooke Army Hospital for treatment.
First Lt. Dwayne C. Douglas, 23, on leave from England Air Force Base at Alexandria, La., was injured while practicing crop spraying runs in a light plane near Dallas.
The plane struck a high wire and flopped over. Douglas walked away from the crash scene and was taken to Baylor hospital with head injuries. |
