Colonel Glenn R. Schumacher, 52, entered into rest on Saturday, September 10, 2011.

 

Visitation will be Monday, September 19, 2011 from 1:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. at RAFB Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 2P.M. at RAFB Chapel, Chaplains Steven J. Nicolia and Matthew Simpson officiating. Burial will be private.

Colonel Schumacher was born on December 22, 1958 in Chicago, Illinois. With pride and honor, he served his country in the United States Air Force, attaining the rank of Colonel. He was the Chief of Operational Plans and Readiness, A3X, Division in HQ AFRC Robins AFB. The Division is responsible for the Command's Status of Readiness and Training (SORTS)/ART/DRRS, Informational Ops, Nuclear policy, Critical Infrastructure Program, A3 operational planning including TFI and A3 future scheduling.

 

Colonel Schumacher received his commission in 1981 from the Air Force Academy. He earned his wings the following year. His first assignment was with the 4460th Helicopter Squadron at Creech Field as the unit scheduler then Life Support Officer. His next was to Hill AFB as an instructor pilot. After unit deactivation he was assigned to the helicopter school house at Kirtland AFB. After separating from active duty in 1991, Colonel Schumacher joined the Reserves with the 71st SOS at Davis Monthan AFB. He became an Air Reserve Technician in September 1996. During his thirteen years with the DM unit, he served as Deployed Director of Operations for deployments to Venezuela, Operation Provide Comfort II, Operation Northern Watch and Deployed Commander for Operation Southern Watch and unit Counter Drug support missions. He was Chief of Scheduling, Training, Safety and Standardization and Evaluation during different times.

 

Colonel Schumacher became the Chief, Operational Plans and Readiness Division in the Directorate of Air, Space and Information Operations in May 2006 until September 2011. From January to August 2011, he deployed to Kandahar, Afghanistan where he was the Commander, 451st Expeditionary Operations Group. Upon his return from the desert, he was chosen to be the Commander, 920th Operations Group. He was due to take command in late September 2011.

 

His mother, June Gallup Schumacher, preceded him in death. His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife, Kristy L. Schumacher, son, Ross T. Schumacher; daughters, Kelly L. McCormick and Dana L. McCormick; father, Richard W. Schumacher; and mother-in-law, Marjorie Moore.
