Bill Dean


Enlisted June 1957. 

 

Attend basic, medical basic, and Aerospace Medical school in 1957.

 

I was stationed at various AF Bases until I volunteered for Viet Nam in 1968.   Served in Viet Nam October 1968 to 1969. I was the NCOIC in the Flight Surgeon's Office. Flew mostly psych warfare planes as no rescue unit at Nah Trang AB. 

 

First flew helicopters (HH-43) when I came  back to Luke AFB, AZ. and  flew with Det 15 ARRS.  Became medical flight examiner approx. 1973. Luke was where I was awarded the Combat Crew Badge. We were one of the first rescue units to fly M.A.S.T. (Military Assistance to Safety in Traffic) I was awarded the Kaman "Mission of Mercy" award 8 times and the Kaman  "Scroll of Honor" 3 times.

 

I was then sent to Ramstein AB, Germany where I was part of the Surgeon General's inspection team. 

 

I then went to Sembach AB, Germany and back to Luke to retire.

 

Retired Nov 1, 1977.
