A correction to this entry:2005 - August 29; Hurricane Katrina strikes the U.S. Gulf Coast, devastating New Orleans and surrounding area. USAF and other services begin massive relief operations, including; four HH-60's and 100 airmen for SAR from the 55th RQ, Davis-Monthan AFB, AZ.; four HH-60's, aircrews, pararescuemen, and maintainers for SAR from the 563rd RGp. Davis-Monthan AFB, AZ.; AFSPC units from F. E. Warren AFB, WY., Malmstrom AFB, MT., Minot AFB, ND., and Vandenberg AFB, CA. provided UH-1N's and crews; the 16th SOS from Hurlburt Field, FL. provided HH-60G's; the 347th RQ Wg., Moody AFB, GA., provided HH-60's and crews for SAR and the 920th RQ Wg., Patrick AFB, FL., provided three HH-60G "Pave Hawks" for SAR.

The 920th RQW provided 5 HH-60G helos: 3 from 301st RQS and 2 from 305th RQS (#90-26226 & 227), DMAFB. In total, the USAF had 26 HH-60G's stationed at Jackson MS ANG Base, making this the largest gathering of USAF Rescue assets since Vietnam.
